The last original member of Lynard Skynard, Gary Rossington passed on Sunday March 5th, 2023 at the age of 71. A band that had its share of tragedies over the years, they just kept finding a way to pull back together. All though it was a love or hate song, the iconic live version of “Free Bird” became a symbol of live performances. You could hardly be at a live performance of any band or genre and, in a moment of silence, not hear someone in the crowd yell out “FREE BIRD”. Gary was the “other” guitar in one of the best guitar tracks ever heard.

Rest In Peace with the rest of your band Gary…you got your wings and you too are now a free bird…..

Happy 13th Birthday Deep Oldies

January 18th, 2023 / / categories: What's Up /

On this day in 2010 Andy Olson started a new project as a companion to his already succesful free form internet radio station Radio Free Phoenix. His idea was an oldies station that played more than just the same library of 100 songs over and over again. DEEP OLDIES was born. Here we are 13 years later still rocking, hoppin’ and be-boppin’ the internet airwaves with an ever growing list of not just the classics but also a mix of album cuts, deep tracks and b sides you would never hear on those broadcast stations. With a great mix of specialty shows on the weekends, Deep Oldies is certainly a one of a kind radio station. Thank you to all the volunteers that have manned their stations and helped us stay on the air during the last 13 years. But more important, thanks to our loyal listeners for continuing to tune in day after day. And best yet, we are and always will be commercial free…..

KEEP ON ROCKIN’ – THE DEEP OLDIES STAFF
