Harry Belafonte passed quietly in his home in upper Manhattan, he was 96 years old. Harry smashed racial barriers in the 1950s music and became a dynamic force in the civil rights movement,
When he broke into the music scene segregation was still widespread and Black faces were a rarity in movies and shortly after, television. Even though a few other black entertainers had also broken the racial barriers, none had made as much of a splash as he did, and for a few years no one in music of any race was bigger.
We’re sad to say, he’s gone away….
Rest in peace Harry Belafonte!
